This pretty hardwood is a bit lighter in weight than, for instance, Oak. My sources range from Spain to our own California native Black Walnut trees, which yield the richest darkest woods in my opinion. The blade is nearly exactly one inch wide on most of these, and the lengths are between 16 and 18 inches.
My “Whappers” are an amusing, surprising shape, kind of a double-but-opposing wedge. This gives them a nice balance in the hand and a delightful warm sting. They are narrower than a paddle, wider than a cane, with a nice weight and more gravitas than a paint stirrer.
